This easy waffle recipe – made with malted all-purpose flour – is the perfect place to get started with waffles. With a crispy, golden exterior and delicate, soft chew, it’s easy to get lost in the simple delight of a perfect waffle on a weekend morning. Especially when the nooks and crannies are filled with butter, whipped cream, chopped fruit, powdered sugar and/or syrup.
Once you’ve got the basic recipe under your belt, the sky’s the limit in terms of delicious waffle variations. In terms of ingredients, try substituting some of the all-purpose flour with finely milled whole wheat or whole spelt flour (along with a bit more milk, if needed). Or, spice things up with, well, some of your favorite spices! Classics like cinnamon, nutmeg & clove are a great place to begin.
If you’re feeling adventurous (and hungry!), you can even make savory waffles by throwing some finely sliced/chopped meat (turkey, salami, etc) and cheese (cheddar, gruyere, etc) in between half-scoops of batter on the waffle iron. Yum!
